Beautiful man in India holding Gyan Mudra

8’x12’ chalk on concrete

This year celebrates seven years competing at the Utah Foster Care festival at the gateway mall in downtown Salt Lake City. This also was a celebration of seven years chalking in festivals! This festival oh so long ago is where it all started. Instantly I was hooked on chalk.

This piece took me eighteen hours over two days to complete and is sized at eight by twelve feet! f you look through my other pieces, you’ll notice this is my third portrait of a bearded old man. I love the detail, history and experience in an older face and absolutely love the challenge of capturing it all in a recreation.

I love creating art for arts sake. We all age and with it experience so much depth, loss, love, everything each person experiences is truly the most amazing thing. I think that is more than beautiful enough. Looking into each story strewn across someones face is inspiration and beauty enough for me. I am incredibly honored to chalk the portraits of a very small percentage of this world.

The man is holding a Gyan Mudra which is one of the most widely used mudras across many religions and practices. It’s used to direct and maintain focus.

Thank you Gianluca Colombi for the use of your beautiful image, Sadhu in Varanasi, India.

Thank you Sonny Mauricio for these wonderful photos.
